The Edgar Awards – Winners!

In a stellar year for comedies led by women, Spy came out on top at the Edgars with five wins overall – including Best Comedy as well as Best Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress and Cameo. The next big winner was Ex Machina, which took home Best Actress in a Drama, Best Original Screenplay, as well as Visual Effects and Best Sci-Fi.

Best Picture this year went to the seventh installment of the Rocky series, Creed, while its longtime star Sylvester Stallone won Best Supporting Actor. Rounding out the comedy awards were actor Armie Hammer for his performance in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and directors Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen for their magnificent Inside Out, which also won Best Animated Film and Voice Acting for Richard Kind (Bing Bong). Oscar Best Picture winner Spotlight managed to snag awards for both its nominations – Best Actor (Michael Keaton) and Best Biography/Historical.

With the indie awards, Mr. Holmes was the big winner, picking up Best Indie, Actor (Ian McKellen) and Editing. The Martian was a surprise winner for Adapted Screenplay, while many of the technical categories fell to Mad Max: Fury Road, much like the Oscars. Most big films managed to get one award, but the big surprise of the event was that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was unable to come up with anything, despite having a near record in nominations (12).
