If you can’t believe it’s already been a year since Star Wars: The Force Awakens reared its ugly head and dominated the box office, here’s your yearly reminder that Disney will be releasing a massive blockbuster in the Star Wars Universe each December (or sooner):
Rogue One, starring Felicity Jones as lonely smuggler Jyn Erso who has been enlisted by the upstart Rebellion as the final key to victory over the dastardly Empire. Her allies in this endeavor are Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) as well as some ragtag refugees that hope to put a dent in the Empire’s new superweapon, the Death Star. If you’ve been living under a rock the past few months, this will all be new to you, but otherwise Cory and Tristan are here to set the record straight on the quality of the first off-shoot from the main Star Wars universe.
Before that though, the pair had the unfortunate chance to preview new Will Smith weeper Collateral Beauty. Misusing an all-star cast including Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Michael Pena, Keira Knightley and Big Willie Style himself, this melodramatic mashup of grief and how to overcome it will have you wishing you were anywhere else.
Luckily Cory redeemed his week by witnessing the wonder that is Tom Ford’s new masterpiece, Nocturnal Animals. Amy Adams helps the auteur avoid a sophomore slump alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Laura Linney, Michael Shannon and a star turn from Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The duo also sat themselves through the laborious The Light Between Oceans, a slight step up from Collateral Beauty, but not by far. The victims here include Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Rachel Weisz and director Derek Cianfrance.
Cory also caught up on Miss Sloane, as well as two pieces of his Warren Beatty completist filmography – Reds and The Fortune.
Since I’ve given way too much away, hopefully you just skimmed and get hit play below:
